Cloud Dragon Paper (Unryu Paper) is a washi paper containing strands of fiber and this looks like flowing clouds. The pattern created by fibers is irregular and random, that is, no two are alike. This paper is so thin that you can see the other side through it, but has good firmness came from tangling of fibers. Tearing this paper makes the fiber well fluffy and good texture appears. This paper dyed with soft natural color coming from Japanese traditional colors. You can use this in various ways, for example, lampshades, partitions, other paper crafts, as wrapping paper and so on. Thin and long ribs made of bamboo are riveted together at the end and coverd with a paper or cloth. Folding fan can be opened and closed. When it's closed, the shape is like a bar and easy to carry. The shape of folding fan opend is called “suehirogari” in Japan which means that it widens towards the end, therefore symbolized development, prosperity and good fortune. This folding fan is made of lacquer paper, or embossed kraft paper lacquered with cashew paint several times. Lacquer made from chinese lacquer tree was used until Taisho period (in the early 20th century), but nowadays cashew paint is applied because it is easy to handle and causes no rash. The making process of this lacquer paper is mostly hand-made by the craftsmen. This paper is durable and has a unique beautiful texture from Japanese tradition which makes more tasteful and warmhearted.
