Shikishi Paperboard is for paintings, calligraphic works, illustrations, autographs, waka/haiku-poetries and so on. It is said that the beginning to use this kind of paperboards was Heian and Kamakura period (8th to 14th century); upper-class people have written waka-poetries on square colored papers and stuck them to the shoji sliding doors or folding fans. It is not clear since when the present shape pasted a core paper and 2 sheets of paper together has begun, but Shikishi paperboards has various sizes and any Japanese manufacturers produce under the same standard.
